Great Scholarship Opportunities for Seniors!
This time of year is exciting and busy, especially for your seniors, so we’re following up to remind you to ensure they’re taking advantage of the College Board Opportunity Scholarships. This unique scholarship program guides students to complete six essential steps that move them closer to college with the opportunity to earn scholarships ranging from $500 to $40,000.* Since the start of the program last year, College Board has awarded $1,750,000 to our first 2,075 Opportunity Scholarship winners across the country.
Attention seniors: It’s not too late to get started*! Make sure your seniors: 1) have opted in to the program and are using Official SAT® Practice on Khan Academy®; 2) have registered for a fall SAT; and 3) are exploring colleges using the college planning tool, BigFuture™, to strengthen their college list. The Practice and Strengthen Scholarships close at the end of October.

Online guide on college application available to students
Fair Opportunity Project is an organization of 20 college students and 250 high school counselors compiling free resources and online videos for applying to college (e.g., making the most of high school, finding the right colleges, completing the college application, writing college essays, how to prepare for standardized tests, affording college). Last year, they sent a free 70-page guide to 57,000 public schools – this guide has been translated into Spanish and Mandarin. They have a strong advising team including from Michael Brown (CEO of City Year), Richard Barth (CEO of KIPP Schools), and Katherine K. Merseth (Founder of Harvard Teacher Fellows Program). The resources also got the off-the-record 'good stuff' from Harvard and Stanford's admissions committees and is well-received by educators.

- Stay Organized and DON'T procrastinate.
- Study and do your homework.
- Seek out help when you need it-- attend Homework Club for help in a subject that you feel overwhelmed about.
- Stay focused.
- Accept Challenges.
- Get your portfolio completed early on in the year.
- Acquire Letters of Recommendation from your teachers.
- Register to take the SAT's.
- Start and revise your college essay.
- Visit a college and attend an Open House.
